The DUTCH Test, explained

The most detailed women's hormone test available, from the comfort of home.

If you've had blood tests that come back "normal" but you still don't feel like yourself, a DUTCH test could give you the answers you've been looking for. It's one of the most advanced women's hormone function tests available, and I offer it as part of my nutritional therapy practice here in the UK.

What Is the DUTCH Test?

DUTCH stands for Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones. Unlike a standard blood test, which only captures a single snapshot in time, DUTCH testing measures how your hormones are made, used, and broken down over a full day. This gives a much richer picture of what's actually happening inside your body.

It's a simple at-home test. You collect a few dried urine samples across the day, following clear instructions, then post your kit back to the lab. No needles, no clinic visits, just a test you can do in your own home, on your own schedule.

What Does DUTCH Testing Measure?

This dutch hormone test looks at a wide range of markers, including:

  • Sex hormones – oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, plus how your body metabolises them

  • Cortisol and cortisone patterns – a full daily curve showing how your stress hormones rise and fall, not just one number

  • Organic acids (with the OAT add-on) – giving insight into nutrient status, mitochondrial function, and neurotransmitter balance

Because it tracks hormone metabolites (the breakdown products your body creates as it processes and clears hormones), as well as the hormones themselves, DUTCH testing can reveal patterns that standard blood or saliva tests often miss.

Who Might Benefit from a DUTCH Hormone Test?

DUTCH testing can offer real clarity if you're experiencing any of the following symptoms, conditions, or life phases:

Symptoms

  • Persistent fatigue, especially if it's worse at certain points in your cycle

  • Anxiety, low mood, or irritability that feels hormonally linked

  • Poor sleep or waking in the early hours feeling wired but tired

  • Low libido

  • Difficulty losing weight despite doing "all the right things"

  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating

Conditions

  • PMS or PMDD

  • PCOS

  • Endometriosis

  • Suspected oestrogen dominance

  • Adrenal or HPA axis dysfunction

Life phases

  • Perimenopause and menopause

  • Coming off hormonal contraception

  • Postnatal recovery

  • Any time you feel your hormones are "off" but you can't quite pin down why

If any of this sounds familiar, this women's hormone test could be the missing piece in understanding your symptoms.
