Functional Health Testing
Understanding what's really going on in your body
Sometimes you can feel that something isn't quite right, but routine GP tests come back "normal." If you're still experiencing symptoms, struggling with energy, hormones, digestion, or weight, the answer may lie deeper than standard blood work can show.
Functional testing offers a more detailed and personalised picture of your health. Rather than looking for disease, these tests assess how well your body is actually functioning, so we can identify imbalances, deficiencies, and patterns that may be contributing to how you feel.
As a Nutritional Therapist, I work with a range of specialist laboratory tests to support a truly root-cause approach to your health.
Tests Available
Comprehensive Stool Analysis
This test assesses how well your digestive system is functioning and can reveal a great deal about the underlying drivers of gut-related symptoms.
It looks at:
Digestive function, including enzyme and bile acid levels
Markers of gut inflammation
The presence of parasites, yeast overgrowth, pathogenic bacteria, and viruses
You may benefit from this test if you're experiencing:
Bloating, wind, or abdominal discomfort
Constipation, diarrhoea, or irregular bowel habits
Nausea or a feeling of heaviness after eating
Unexplained fatigue that could be gut-related
Skin issues such as eczema, acne, or rosacea
Food intolerances or sensitivities
Anxiety, low mood, or brain fog (gut health and mental wellbeing are closely linked)
Women’s Hormone Testing
Hormone imbalances can affect every aspect of how you feel, from your energy and mood to your weight, sleep, and menstrual cycle. This specialist test provides a detailed snapshot of your hormonal health, with options to include cortisol analysis (to assess how your stress response is impacting your hormones) and Organic Acid Testing (OAT), which gives further insight into nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial function, and neurotransmitter balance.
You may benefit from this test if you're experiencing:
Irregular, heavy, or painful periods
PMS or mood changes linked to your cycle
Symptoms of perimenopause such as hot flushes, night sweats, or sleep disruption
Persistent fatigue, particularly if it varies throughout the month
Anxiety, low mood, or irritability
Difficulty losing weight despite doing "all the right things"
Low libido
Signs of high cortisol such as waking at 3am, feeling wired but tired, or struggling to manage stress
Lifecode Gx Nutrigenomics Testing
This pioneering test looks at your unique genetic profile to understand how your genes interact with nutrition, lifestyle, and environment. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, nutrigenomics allows us to tailor your nutritional plan to your individual genetic potential.
Areas explored include how your body processes nutrients, responds to certain foods, manages inflammation, and how factors such as exercise and stress interact with your genetic make-up.
You may benefit from this test if you're:
Feeling as though generic dietary advice simply doesn't work for you
Interested in a truly personalised, long-term approach to your health
Dealing with chronic symptoms that haven't responded to standard interventions
Looking to understand your genetic predispositions around weight, energy, or hormonal health
Keen to optimise your health and wellbeing for the long term
Functional DX Ultra (Advanced Blood Markers)
This comprehensive blood test goes far beyond what's typically offered by your GP and covers a wide range of markers to assess how your body is functioning across multiple systems.
It includes:
Blood glucose and insulin regulation
Thyroid function
Liver and gallbladder health
Kidney function
Iron levels and anaemia markers
Inflammatory markers
You may benefit from this test if you're experiencing:
Unexplained weight gain or difficulty losing weight
Fatigue, brain fog, or difficulty concentrating
Feeling cold all the time, dry skin, hair thinning, or constipation (potential thyroid signs)
Bloating or digestive discomfort after meals
High stress levels and symptoms of inflammation
A general sense that something isn't right, but routine tests haven't given you answers
