When Quick Fixes Aren't Enough: A Client's Journey to Sustainable Blood Sugar Balance
What happens when you do everything you're told, and it still doesn't work?
That's exactly where one of my clients found herself. For years, she'd been managing rising blood sugar with advice from her GP: cut carbs, try intermittent fasting, walk more, consider Metformin. She tried it all. And for a while, some of it helped.
But nothing stuck. The numbers kept creeping back up. And she was exhausted from fighting her own body.
The Problem with Quick Fixes
The advice my client received wasn't wrong, exactly. But it was incomplete. Generic dietary changes and short-term interventions rarely address the deeper reasons why blood sugar becomes dysregulated in the first place.
She'd also spent hours Googling which foods were "safe" for blood sugar. But as she put it herself: Google isn't a professional. Without context, all that information led to more confusion, not clarity.
A Different Kind of Conversation
When she came to me, we didn't start with a list of foods to avoid. We started with her. Her health history, her lifestyle, her stress levels, her sleep. All the things that rarely come up in a 10-minute GP appointment.
Together, we worked on:
Choosing smarter carbohydrates, rather than cutting them out entirely
Building protein and fibre into every meal to support stable blood sugar
Improving her sleep quality, which has a direct impact on glucose regulation
Making small, realistic changes she could actually maintain
Fibre turned out to be a real game changer for her. But as she said herself, it was the bigger picture working together that made the real difference.
The Results
Her glucose levels came down. She's sleeping better. And for the first time in years, the changes feel sustainable.
In her words: "It's sustainable. That's the main thing."
We worked together entirely over video call. She's not based in the UK. Location was never a barrier to getting the support she needed.
Is This You?
If you've been told to "just eat less" or "move more" and it hasn't worked long-term, you're not failing. You may simply be missing the root cause.
Nutritional therapy looks beyond the symptom to understand why your body is struggling, and builds a personalised plan you can live with, not just survive on.
I work with busy women online via video call, supporting hormone health, energy, digestion, and metabolic balance through my four-month programme. Functional testing is also available where helpful, to take the guesswork out of what your body actually needs.
